Artist Statement
Caleigh Stefanko explores the depths of vulnerability and the intricate inner monologues of creatives through a unique blend of visual imagery and textual expression. Drawing inspiration from surrealism, automatism, and abstraction, she intertwines these elements to create works that challenge simplistic interpretations and invite viewers into a realm of ambiguity. Stefanko views art as more than mere creation; it is a profound coping mechanism, a means of outward expression, and a powerful tool for communicating with the self and others. She invites observers to engage in introspection and connect on a deeper level with the shared human condition.
Based in Cincinnati, Caleigh Stefanko attends the University of Cincinnati, pursuing degrees in Fine Arts and Horticulture. She is enrolled in the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP), graduating in the spring of 2025 with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts and a minor in Horticulture. In her artistic practice, she utilizes multiple art-making methods: painting, printmaking, photography, writing, and drawing. Her art practice explores automatism, spiritualism, and surrealism. As of 2023, she has been a returning student worker at DAAP Galleries, assisting with installation and deinstallation for art exhibitions.
